Why Halal Is Clean Eating

Built halal

No pork or alcohol in any ingredient. The meat is yours to buy halal.

Whole ingredients

Recipes built around real, minimally processed foods your body recognises.

Nutrients on every recipe

Calories, macros and micronutrients, worked out for each dish.

Priced on every recipe

Each dish carries its cost per serving, from real UK prices.

It's not just a religious standard. It's a food quality standard.

What a balanced week looks like

By Abu · Last reviewed

“Clean” has no official meaning, so we measure our recipes against one that does. The NHS Eatwell Guide asks for at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, and for fruit and vegetables to make up just over a third of what we eat.

Starchy foods make up just over another third in the same guide, ideally the wholegrain kind, and it asks for at least 2 portions of fish a week, 140 g each, 1 of them oily, such as salmon, sardines or mackerel. Beans, lentils and chickpeas count as protein foods too, which suits a halal kitchen well: a dal or a chana curry is a protein dish in its own right.

“You do not need to achieve this balance with every meal, but try to get the balance right over a day or even a week.”

NHS, The Eatwell Guide

That is why we plan a week, not a plate. Every recipe shows its calories, macros and micronutrients, so you can see the balance add up across the days. Browse all our recipes, rank halal protein sources per 100 g, or read how we work out every number.
